CAPTAIN AMERICA:
THE FIRST AVENGER

Like many people, when it was announced that Chris Evans was playing the iconic Captain America, I was a bit disappointed. Evans is always great in his roles, but could he play the Sentinel of Liberty? America’s Captain?
Hell. Yes.
Chris Evans totally owned the role.

Directed nicely by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger tells the story of diminutive Steve Rogers, who while physically unable to join the military, wants to do just that with all of his heart. His perseverance catches the attention of a scientist who’s working with the military to produce super soldiers, and despite objections, he is chosen.
Cap leads the American soldiers (and a motley crew of international soldiers) against the nefarious Red Skull, played with relish by the always great Hugo Weaving.

There’s nothing groundbreaking here. But what Captain America does is nicely tie in to some of the other Marvel flicks to prepare us all for what’s to come. I’ve never been a huge Cap fan, or a huge Iron Man fan, or Avengers fan, really, but seeing them brought to life has been a lot of fun. I look forward to where this all leads in 2012.

Which reminds me…Oh yeah, stick around after the credits. Duh.
