DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS

Based on the French film Le Diner de Cons , Dinner For Schmucks is a very funny, but way over the top and cringe inducing comedy. Paul Rudd plays an up and coming financial analyst type who gets an invite into an exclusive dinner his boss and some other higher ups throw for their own cruel entertainment. The catch is that he needs to bring a special guest. The biggest loser / weirdo / eccentric he can find. Of course he doesn’t wanna do it, but he wants a promotion. What to do? What to do? As if in answer, into his life crashes Steve Carell; loser, weirdo, eccentric.

The movie is predictable, but the journey to the obvious is so crazy at times I have to wonder why they made this PG-13 instead of a hard R. Well, obviously for $$$, but it’s a shame, because it’s a crazy movie. Very mean spirited, but I couldn’t help but laugh despite myself.

I have to say that along with the excellent Carell & Rudd, who really were great, there are two people in the flick that I just can’t stand for all the wrong reasons…Basically just because they are so popular with the cool kids. Jermaine Clement and Zach Galifianakis. Their characters here are so funny and weird, that I actually liked them. Well, maybe I hated them, but in that "love to hate" way.

So like I said, crazy movie, mean spirited and way, way over the top. But I can almost guarantee you’ll laugh. A lot.
