ELF

Will Ferrell is the apparent heir apparent to Jim Carrey.
Can I say apparent twice like that in the same sentence?
I used to think that maybe Dave Sheridan was, and apparently I was the only one.
There’s that word again.
But anyway, Will Ferrell takes Elf from a pretty bad movie, to an OK one.
He’s that good.

Elf is directed by Jon Favreau, mostly known for his acting in films such as DAREDEVIL, he’s also an established writer director, with Swingers and Made under his belt. He didn’t write Elf, but that’s OK. Maybe had he written it, it would have been a little...livelier?
Will Ferrell stars as a human who is raised by Santa’s elves in the North Pole.
When he comes of age, er, well, he’s like 30 in the flick, he decides to try and find his real father, played by James Caan. Ferrell is really funny, and does all he can with what he’s got. But he was given surprisingly little. I really expected more from Elf. I was really looking forward to it, so maybe I’m just the victim of very high hopes.
But Will Ferrell is a very funny guy, and I can’t help but think that the future is very bright for him, and ergo, us, as movie fans.
