THE GOODS: LIVE HARD, SELL HARD

I have to admit to being a little disappointed by The Goods. The commercials seemed pretty funny, but I knew the movie wasn’t getting all that much buzz, unlike say, THE HANGOVER. That said, there are worse ways to spend 10 bucks and a couple of hours.

Jeremy Piven plays a hardcore car salesman who is the sort of leader of a quirky bunch of traveling sales people. They’re like the mercenaries of the car selling world. The motley crew is comprised of Ving Rhames, David Koechner, and the scene stealing Kathryn Hahn. They descend on a small city in California to help a veteran car dealer who’s in financial straits. The dealer, played by James Brolin, has a daughter, played by Jordana Spiro of TV’s My Boys, who tries to keep Piven on the up and up.
There are also some other recognizable faces. You might be pleasantly surprised.

The Goods is pretty funny at times, and very funny a couple of times, but kind of lacking overall. It’s probably a better rental, but really I was bored and just wanted to get out for a while. Also, I just like to support the good old R Rated comedies when I can. You should too!
