Talk about your missed opportunity.
After the brilliant success Disney had with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, their next movie based on a popular ride is Haunted Mansion. Considering how dark Pirates was, you’d think they’d kick it up a notch for a movie that screams to be dark.
But no, they made it into an Eddie Murphy family comedy.
He does a nice job, and the movie is still pretty cool, but, well, you know...it’s just wrong.

Eddie Murphy and his family check out a mansion that they think is for sale. Of course it isn’t, and so we get the history of what came before, and why said mansion is indeed haunted. The back story was OK actually, and we do get to see various nods to the actual ride. In fact, visually, the movie is pretty cool. I love the look of a haunted house movie, you know with the huge house that’s all dark and dreary, and this movie definitely delivers there.

I kinda knew what to expect, and I guess I got what I expected.
I guess I just wanted more.
