HOW TO LOSE A GUY
IN SEVEN DAYS

OK, I am a hopeless romantic.
But I must admit, my appreciation and lately even, my tolerance, of romantic comedies is slipping fast.
They just don’t do it for me anymore.
Sounds like no big deal, but to me, it’s a sad thing.
Almost like my own personal version of male menopause.
It’s very sad.

That being said, even though I’m not into the romantic comedy much lately, I wanted to see How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days. The trailer impressed me, and I appreciate the hell outta Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.

Well, sadly, this is just another romantic comedy…very, very formula, and often so far-fetched it makes you wanna hurl.
It’s based on a book by two writers, but has like three different screenwriters…always a bad sign. Strangely enough one of the screenwriters is none other than Burr Steers, the talented writer-director of IGBY GOES DOWN. What he’s doing involved with this flick is beyond me, but me thinks his influence hardly made the final cut. (Of course I can’t back that up at all, but I’m merely a low grade Internet hack and therefore don’t have to adhere to the strict guidelines set forth for real writers and journalists. Phew.)

But like I said, I do like the leads. Both Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey should be bigger stars than they are. They are solid performers with an annoying amount of charm. I’d prefer for both of them to get back to quality movies, like ALMOST FAMOUS and FRAILTY, but all in good time, I guess.
And I must add that if you are a heterosexual male with blood flowing through your veins and Hudson’s smile doesn’t melt you, then you just may be dead. Please consult your physician.

So anyway, I can’t really say I hated this movie…I was entertained from time to time, and I do think the two leads had a nice chemistry. But it was just too stupid at times.
I dunno.
