HARRY POTTER and the DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART ONE

This will be a very short review, because I seriously barely remember the book, the final book of the Harry Potter saga. I can’t tell you if this first part of the two part cinematic finale is very faithful to the book, how much was cut out, and if anything was added in. All I can say is that by itself, it’s an entertaining, albeit slow moving film.

Our heroes Harry, Ron and Hermione are on their own, searching for the means to destroy the evil and seemingly back in control Lord Voldemort. Sure, there are some magical folks on their side, but for the most part, the trio are out there alone, away from the once safe walls of Hogwarts.

All of beloved cast members are back, and really, I’m so glad they’ve been around for the whole series. We’ve watched the kids grow up and become pretty decent actors, and of course among the adult actors, it’s always nice to see familiar faces.

If you’ve never read the books, you’ve missed out. If you’ve not seen all the previous movies, this movie will make no sense. It’s not exactly a stand-alone piece. But if you’re a fan, this movie won’t change that, and you’ll be happy to revisit the increasingly dark Harry Potter Universe.
