THE LEAGUE OF
EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN

I regret the fact that I haven’t read the comic books which The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen , or LXG, is based on. Written by the great Alan Moore, I’m sure they’re good, if not great, or maybe even amazing.
The concept is really great…legendary figures from literature are brought together as a team to battle evil.
Unfortunately, the movie was very Hollywood, and apparently, not very close to the source material.
And even more unfortunate…it’s just not a very good movie.

There’s quite a bit wrong with LXG. Some of the dialogue is really bad. Some of the special effects are really bad. And while I personally liked the way Tom Sawyer was handled…it turns out he’s not even in the source material.
And I can’t help but feel cheated by that.
Mina Harker, from the pages of Dracula, was handled pretty well, as was, to a certain extent anyway Dorian Gray.

I wanted to like this movie. I was hoping it would be a really great ride, and people would say, "wow, that was a comic book"...and they’d realize that there are very smart comics (or graphic novels) out there, like the original League, and the incredible ROAD TO PERDITION, as well as super-hero stuff.
But this movie will fail, as did, sadly, HULK, and the whole comic book movie wave will die down until the next big thing, hopefully next year with Spider-Man 2.

By the way, this movie was directed by Stephen Norrington, who did the original Blade. Blade was really cool, but sadly, LXG is a disappointment.
It’s not terrible, but it is a disappointment.
