I knew very little about Matchstick Men going in. I knew it had something to do with con men, but that was it. I decided to see it because I know that Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell are both excellent actors. It turned out to be a very well acted, well put together movie.
I enjoyed it for a while, but then the movie reminded me that I don’t like stuff about con men or criminals in general.

But I was already sitting there, so I stuck it out. Yes, Nicolas Cage does a phenomenal job. The man is really a great actor. Yes, Sam Rockwell does a great job, but he never really gets to shine the way Cage does. Alison Lohman holds up very nicely with Cage, no small feat.
Director Ridley Scott keeps the movie flowing nicely…

But still, while it’s a good movie, I can’t say I liked it. I woulda liked it if it was a comedy, not a drama with comedic moments. So, despite giving a very decent grade, I gotta say, I woulda rather not seen the movie.

But at least it lets me get away with a very short review…
