MR & MRS SMITH

This will be a very short review of a pretty bad movie. I didn’t care whether or not the ridiculously attractive leads in this film became a couple during the filming or not, but I’m pretty sure that’s what made the movie debut at number one with decent box office $$$. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a married couple that don’t know that their spouse is a…I dunno what they are…spies? Assassins? Eventually they find out the hard way what each other really is, and the fun ensues.

OK, that’s the problem. The fun is never that fun, and the drama (are they really in love; do they really want to kill each other)never really get's real enough to care. Yeah, at times there was some laughs, more so from the charming Pitt, as opposed to Vince Vaughn, who is funny, but even he can’t really rise above what he’s given here. And the drama…well, quite frankly you never really care about the leads all that much, so when the time comes when the big truth is revealed, it’s more like, whatever, than wow.

Another problem I have is the absolute lack of logic and realism in the over the top action. I know it’s commonplace for the hero to level an entire room of “bad guys” and walk away relatively unscathed, but that doesn’t make it right. It was just too much for this moviegoer, damn it!
Heh, I’m dramatic.

Anyway, really, I think the filmmakers dropped the ball. This could have been a very cool movie. Yes, visually, it looks damn good, but how could it not with Pitt and especially the unbelievably, inhumanly gorgeous Jolie. Damn. No, really…DAMN.

But yeah, Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty bad. Wait for the DVD…
