THE OTHER GUYS

I went in to The Other Guys with high hopes. The commercials and word of mouth made it seem like a very funny flick. And it was…but only every now and then. In the end, it wasn’t as funny as I had hoped.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play cops on the low rung of the success ladder who stumble into a huge case involving Steve Coogan and a whole lot of money. Ferrell’s very funny, almost playing the straight guy for a while before eventually lapsing into typical Ferrell tomfoolery. Wahlberg’s not bad in the flick. He can handle comedy pretty well. Their chemistry is pretty good, too.

I guess my issues with the flick are the quality of the jokes. Some of them just didn’t work. There were some running gags that weren’t worth the trouble. It also seemed like Wahlberg looked different in several scenes. I don’t know if maybe he was filming something else while filming this, or maybe it was just my imagination. Weird.

So I guess overall, I would say The Other Guys is a rental. You will laugh, but you won’t be blown away.
