PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:
DEAD MAN’S CHEST

Wow what a disappointment.
I loved The First Movie but despite having most of the cast from that one, the sequel really didn’t work for me.
I feel disappointed by Gore Verbinski, who directed the first one so well, but it’s not his fault. The movie looks pretty good a lot of the time, despite being way over the top. It’s weird. There’s nothing realistic about the first movie, but when I left this movie, I told MA1 and family that somehow I felt the first movie was based in reality while this new one was a total fantasy action movie. I know, that sounds weird.
But I guess the story was just kind of blah to me.
Bill Nighy was really good as Davey Jones though. He’s a great actor, even through a ton of make up and accessories. Actually the Davey Jones look was pretty cool, and well done, but overall a little too Lovecraftian for me. I think there should have been more of a human look to him, at least body wise, even if they still had the octopus head.
But that’s just me.

There was some positives to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and I’m hoping the second sequel, which is already mostly finished, saves the unnecessary trilogy. They really should have left well enough alone, though.
