SCOTT PILGRIM Vs THE WORLD

I’ve never read the graphic novels Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is based on, but I’m glad I went to see the movie, because I really enjoyed it.

Michael Cera is once again very Michael Cera like as the titular hero who tries to hook up with the lovely Ramona Flowers, played nicely by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She seems to like him to, but her Exes don’t, and they go after him.

See, this movie plays like a video game, and even though the characters seem totally normal, they, or at least some of them, have super powers / skills. So a common rock show can suddenly become a duel to the death. It’s crazy and over the top, but it’s a lot of fun.
Even the Universal Studios opening has been altered to fit the movie. Awesome.

Director Edgar Wright does a great job with a great cast. Along with Cera and Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman all appear. Everybody is excellent, but really the movie’s quirky flash & style are the real stars. This is one of the most inventive movies I’ve ever seen.

The only complaints I have is that the movie makes me feel old. It’s a young movie made for young people, and really young people are the ones that really will understand and appreciate it. So my complaint isn’t fair…it’s not the movie’s fault that I’m an old man.

My other complaint is an even sillier one! Bass playing should be done with fingers. Not picks. Just saying is all. ;)
