UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION

I remember appreciating UNDERWORLD for what it was, even though it was a flawed film. The inevitable and unnecessary sequel however, left much to be desired.

Underworld: Evolution isn’t a terrible movie, but it’s just not a good movie. Kate Beckinsale is back and does a nice job as Selene the vampire, but she’s not given anything new to do. Well, maybe she shows a little more vulnerability, but it’s not enough to really call it growth as a character. Scott Speedman is back as Michael the newfangled hybrid werewolf, and the same goes for his character.

What is new is Tony Curran as Marcus, “the earliest vampire”, and he does a good job. I’ve seen him in a lot of stuff, and he’s always good. Kinda creepy for a redhead, but always good. His character in this movie is why it’s called Evolution, as he’s different than the rest of the vampires.
However, I must have missed something because I couldn’t tell you why he’s evolved.

Len Wiseman is back as the co-writer and director for Evolution, and he does an OK job. But so far, sorry dude, his biggest achievement to date is marrying the lovely Ms Beckinsale.
