WANTED

Wanted is based on a comic book from Top Cow and Image Comics.
It’s about killers, assassins, and the human condition.
It’s almost like KILL BILL meets The Matrix, and it’s fucking awesome.

James McAvoy stars as a cube-dwelling accountant with a dead-end job and bland, boring existence, who finds himself involved with some dangerous people who kill for the better good. Angelina Jolie becomes his mentor of sorts and they take orders from Morgan Freeman.

McAvoy is very likable in Wanted, and surprisingly believable in the action scenes, which run the gamut from the usual to “oh my fucking God”.
Ms Jolie, is really good as “Fox”, and I totally bought her as a bad ass. I really just wish she’d eat a sandwich. She’s so thin….but my God, she’s just incredibly beautiful.
Morgan Freeman…do I really need to say anything?
The man exudes cool and suave and charm and authority.
He does not disappoint at all.

Wanted is adapted for the screen by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, based on the comics of Mark Millar and JG Jones. The writing is a lot of fun and quick paced, and full of bad language. Loved it. But I guess action and visuals say more than words here, and director Timur Bekmambetov, the Russian director of Nightwatch and Daywatch, keeps things moving nicely. There are some very inventive scenes, not necessarily based in reality, but so what? They’re fun.

I don’t think the “public at large” realize this movie is based on a comic book, so hopefully action film fans will go see this movie and spread the word. Any action film fan will dig this movie. I’m not even all that into action flicks, but I loved this movie!
