WHAT LIES BENEATH

I am such a pussy.
I jump at the slightest noise; The slightest movement that enters my peripheral vision.
That being said, I must have jumped about a hundred times while watching What Lies Beneath!

What Lies Beneath is decidedly adult psychological thriller from talented movie maker Robert Zemekis, who's best known for Forrest Gump and Contact. I say "adult" because it's a grown up movie. This is NOT your typical Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Here Zemekis directs two Hollywood veterans, Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer. They are very, very good in this movie. Harrison Ford is a lot like Mel Gibson too me…he's never bad, always good enough, but he never really surprises me in terms of acting. He just …is.

Michelle Pfieffer though…WOW. I haven't seen everything she's been in, but I think this is her best performance ever…even better than that of one Selina Kyle / Catwoman! Don't get me wrong, Michelle nailed the Catwoman role, and brought this edgy, almost Goth touch to the character that even the comics never achieved, but here she's just awesome. And DAMN, at 42, this woman is BEAUTIFUL!
She has probably the closet thing you can have to a perfect face, especially considering her age.
(Obviously, Natalie Portman is the most aesthetically pleasing human being in the universe, but she's a wee-child of 19!)

ANYWAY, I won't give away anything about What Lies Beneath, because practically anything I say can be a spoiler. All I can say is that the movie trailer both gives away too much, but doesn't say much at all, and also that screen presence of supermodel Amber Valleta has apparently been cut down quite a bit. I'm not sure if that's because of a lacking in her skills versus heavyweights Pfieffer and Ford, or just because Zemekis found the scenes superfluous.
Maybe when the film gets released on DVD we'll find out…
I think Zemekis tried a little too hard at times, but overall I would say it's a good movie, with some genuinely scary moments, with a whole lot of tension in between.
