SHANGHAI KNIGHTS

I kinda enjoyed SHANGHAI NOON so I figured I had to see Shanghai Knights. But I can’t really say I liked the sequel.

Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson reprise their roles, and while there is still some chemistry, Knights doesn’t work for me.
There’s also an attempt at cleverness which might have worked in a better movie, but here is almost eye rolling-ly exasperating.

Maybe I just can’t get into Chan anymore, I mean, his last movie, THE TUXEDO was even worse than this.
And while I really like Owen Wilson, his career may be in a holding pattern too. His last, I Spy with Eddie Murphy, didn’t exactly break records at the old B.O.

This movie does have a nice addition in the form of Fann Wong, as Chon Lin, Jackie’s sister. She’s a bad ass like Zhi Zhang from CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, but even hotter, and speaks a little English too.

So maybe my time with Jackie Chan is at an end…I dunno.
I already hear there’s a third Shanghai flick in the works.
I dunno.
I just dunno.
I almost waited for the rental on this one, and I mighta been better off…
